Before you can join surf club you must have had a Group Surfing Lesson with Saltburn Surf School. Surf club has now been running for over fifteen years, just as young persons would go to a football club, gymnastics or swimming club, surf club offers youngsters the opportunity to improve their skills by joining the Surfing England Junior Surfers Scheme.
The scheme has been developed to support, inform and reward progression at five different levels. Each level incorporates knowledge of surfing fundamentals, skills in the water, freestyle ability and surf safety
We have now got a dedicated number of members which have advanced tremendously in their surfing skills. Surf Club is an environment where not only do participants get to surf in a supervised environment, but progress and learn more about water safety, equipment needs, beach topography and health and fitness.
The club environment allows more senior members the chance to become coaches and give back to the newer members with their knowledge and skills. With a development programme run at the surf school for those interested.
The sessions are led by our qualified coaches and offer a more regular approach to learning. Due to the success of the Surf Club there is a waiting list so get your child’s name added early.
We provide all of the equipment but please bring:
for 10 weeks, the place it is theirs to keep until they are 18. You just keep renewing every 10 weeks
Book Now by filling out the form below or texting 07961714993
You pick your day and time and if we have availability you can join that session for a minimum of 10 weeks. At present the Surf Club runs on the following days and times:
After School Clubs – April to September
Wednesday 4.30-5.30pm and Friday 4.30 – 5.30pm
Weekend Club – April to October
Saturday – 9-10am or 10am-11am
Sunday – 10-11am or 11 -12pm
This is for a number of reasons, mainly safety. We cover basic safety within the Group Surf lesson and it allows all participants joining the club to already know the safety signals we use and cover the very basics of surfing. This way everyone starts at a base level. It also allows the potential club member to try surfing before committing to 10 weeks, they can also make that decision as to whether they like us…always an important part.
All surfing kit is included (wetsuit, boots and surfboard), although we do offer the opportunity to purchase a wetsuit (subject to availability) with a club member discount.
Then you forfeit that payment for that week unfortunately. This is because that club space is saved for you and we would not be able to fill it for one week.
If the sea conditions are too dangerous. We try to run most sessions as we see the value in budding surfers experiencing all the sea has to offer and understanding how that can affect their surfing experience. If however, the conditions are considered dangerous we will call off that session. The sessions fee will just be added to the end of that 10 week block.
Yes, the surf club still runs when the sea is calm, this is because it allows us to work with club members on fundamental elements of surfing skills, such as paddling, understanding beach topography, some water safety which we wouldn’t necessarily get to address when there is surf. Often disguised as a game, we will continue to work on their balance, strength and water confidence.
Saltburn Surf School is fully accredited by Surfing England and the International Surfing Association. Providing prefessional coaching to learn and improve your surfing since 1983.
